Users use Foothold for the following types of questions

Should we focus our next campaign on onboarding teams?

B2B software · 12-person team

You have a working product, two marketers, and eight weeks for the next campaign. Leads come from many teams, but onboarding users get value fastest. You’re thinking about making them your main audience.

Problem
A broad message hides your strongest use case. Interest from a few teams still does not prove they will pay.
Breakthrough objective
A clear buying reason that onboarding teams will pay for, using the product you already have.

Next phases

Hire a VP of Sales, or fix the sales motion first?

Founder-led sales · Growing SaaS team

You close most deals yourself. Two salespeople have joined, and you have the budget for a senior hire. You want sales to grow without needing you in every call.

Problem
The team cannot yet explain which parts of a deal need your help. A new leader may inherit the same bottleneck.
Breakthrough objective
One sales process a teammate can use to close the right deals without the founder.

Next phases

Which product bet earns the next two quarters?

Product team · Two quarters of capacity

Customers ask for a second product while users of the core product still need help getting started. Your team can fund one serious bet. You’re weighing a new build against fixing the core.

Problem
Requests show interest. They do not yet show that a new product would win paying customers.
Breakthrough objective
Paid demand for the new product that is strong enough to earn a team of its own.

Next phases

Is this new market an opening, or a distraction?

Services company · New market interest

Three firms in a new market have asked to work with you. You have a small delivery team and a strong record at home. A wider launch could grow sales, but may need local support you do not yet have.

Problem
The sales opportunity is clear. The cost of serving it is still a guess.
Breakthrough objective
One profitable customer in the new market whose needs your current team can meet.

decisions with structure.

Build a clear picture of your situation. Test what holds up. Leave with a Strategy Brief and next steps.

Ask the right questions. Weigh what matters. Make decisions that stack.

1

Bring your question, what you want to change, and what you have to work with. Add useful files or ask your team for input.

2

Look at what helps, what gets in the way, what must be true, and what you could do next. Use thinking tools to explore a thought more closely.

3

Check the claims your decision rests on. Work through conflicts, gaps, and unknowns. Keep clear what holds up and what still needs a test.

4

See the answer, the smallest advantage worth building, and a roadmap. Your brief keeps the reasons and open questions with the plan.

5

Carry the outcome into Priorities. Use your brief in a Slack discussion or copy it into ChatGPT or Claude. Bring new findings back when the picture changes.

Use Strategic Intelligence

Your next decision can use what you learned.

At key points, ask Strategic Intelligence to review your completed decisions for strengths, weaknesses, and recurring patterns. Keep useful findings as specific guidance for future decisions.

As you work through a decision, Foothold retrieves the latest company context saved in your account, alongside the guidance you chose to keep. The AI uses it as a private reference under strict access controls, without training it into the model.

Breakthrough objective

A first result new customers can reach without a call from our team.

Breakthrough objective

One customer segment whose buying reason we can explain, test and repeat.

Breakthrough objective

A sales motion someone other than the founder can use before we hire a leader to scale it.

Breakthrough objective

Evidence that the new product solves a buying problem our current product cannot.

Recurring bottleneck

Across these decisions, commitments run ahead of evidence about why customers buy.

What would help

Before the next commitment, agree on what evidence would make you change your mind.

Your strategy stays yours.

Bring the real question, with the context that matters. Confidentiality comes with every Foothold plan.

How your information is protected
Private context. No model training.
Your strategies, documents, and outcomes are never used to train AI models. Strategic Intelligence analyzes past decisions in real time, identifying strengths, weaknesses, and patterns without requiring model training. Strict access controls keep this context securely contained within your company account and limited to the contributor permissions you define.
No use for other customers
Your strategic history informs only your company’s work. Foothold never pools your inputs across businesses or uses them to generate recommendations for competitors.
Control over research and sharing
Review web search topics and choose what to share with people and connected tools. AI processing and retention are explained openly.
Encrypted connections
HTTPS encrypts data in transit between your browser and Foothold.
Private file access
Uploaded files use private storage with access checks. Selected file contents are sent to AI only when used in your work.
Limited analytics
Product analytics exclude strategy text by default.

Frequently asked questions

Using Foothold

What kind of question should I bring?
Bring a choice that could change how your company spends its time, money, or effort. You might be choosing a customer segment, making a senior hire, or weighing a new product bet. Start with the question you have. You can sharpen it as you go.
Why use Foothold if I already use ChatGPT?
Foothold gives the decision a set path: build your situation model, look from four angles, and review the claims behind the plan. The Strategy Brief keeps the answer, roadmap, and open questions together. You can then copy it into ChatGPT to guide the work.
Can my strategy inform another customer’s recommendations?
No. Your strategy, documents, and outcomes are excluded from AI training and other customers’ recommendations. AI providers process relevant context to help you, with retention and access details explained on our confidentiality page. Other businesses may independently receive similar advice.
Will AI decide for me?
You make the call. AI can ask questions, suggest angles, and help you spot gaps. You choose what to keep. Review makes clear which claims hold up and which you are still taking as assumptions.
Do I need to have all the research ready?
No. Start with what you know and name what you still need to check. Add files, search connected Slack context, or ask others for input when it helps. Search results only enter your decision when you add them.
How does my team take part?
Invite named teammates to work on the shared Canvas while your AI conversation stays private. Ask for input on the curated Strategy Brief, review suggested changes, and record who decides and what happens next. Explore team collaboration.
What do I leave with?
A Strategy Brief with an answer, the smallest advantage worth building, and a roadmap. It also keeps the reasons and unknowns in view. Copy the brief, save it as a PDF, and manage the outcome in Priorities.

Plans and access

Can I try it before I pay?
Yes. Start a session and work through your question before the paid brief step. The walkthrough on this page also lets you try a full sample. You can see the plans and billing options before you choose.
Can I cancel my plan?
Yes. Turn off renewal in Settings. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for. The full pricing page shows each billing option and its total before checkout.
